The Spiritual Condition of America-Labor Day
First, I wanted to wish everyone a happy labor day today. We definitely are aware that there is a lot going on in our country, but thank God, we can always reflect on the promises of God, that He will see us through this time of temptation and trials.
Over the past few months, several decisions have been made by Congress and the President, including a highly controversial ruling on gay marriage equality. Over the past year or so, we have seen the controversial roll-out of the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare which has taken away the freedom that American families once had on whether or not they wanted to have health insurance. However, perhaps the bigger problem is the proliferation of wickedness and carnality in the entertainment industry. It is hard to watch any type of awards ceremony (Grammy’s, Oscars, etc.) without seeing nakedness, lewdness, lasciviousness, or as in the 2015 Grammy’s: Satan worship. A few decades ago, this type of content was either censored or was not even allowed to be shown on TV. What happened? Did America suddenly forget that we have an omniscient, omnipotent, all-powerful God who sees all things? We have allowed so much idolatry to seep into our culture insomuch that America’s conscience has become defiled. We see nothing wrong with such foolishness. But God definitely sees something wrong with it. Let’s look at Deuteronomy 32:21.
They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
Deuteronomy 32:21 KJV
The Bible says that “they have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God;”. What is the Bible talking about? It is talking about idols. All of these modern wicked television shows are all centered around idolatry. Some of these shows have won Oscars several times in a row. Why? Because they glorify fornication and homosexuality. The television shows keep running because America has become obsessed with such wickedness and has made it an idol.
The next part of verse 21 reads, “they have provoked me to anger with their vanities.” Almost every modern television show now is vain. There is nothing that uplifts the Saviour in these television shows. If anything, they mock the very existence and power of Almighty God. This provokes the Lord to anger.
Will you pray for America that we will wake up and do what is right in the sight of the Lord?
