Christ’s Sacrifice on the Cross Paid for All of Our Sins Forever
“And he shall slay the lamb in the place where he shall kill the sin offering….for as the sin offering is the priest’s, so is the trespass offering: it is most holy; But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.”
Leviticus 14:13; Hebrews 10:12; Hebrews 10:14 (KJV)
In this passage of Scripture, we see that God reveres the sin and trespass offerings higher than any other offering (Lev. 14:13b). We can also see that because of the holiness of these two offerings, only priests were allowed to perform them, “…for as the sin offering is the priest’s, so is the trespass offering: it is most holy.”
The Book of Hebrews likens the Messiah to a high priest, one that will make a final atonement for all of our sins. In Hebrews 10:12, the Bible says that “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God.” God had always planned it that way.
God never intended for animal sacrifices to pay for our sins forever. They were simply temporary payments for our sin, that allowed God to overlook our sins (see Acts 17:30). Jesus’s sacrifice on the Cross was the FINAL atonement for our sins, “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” (Heb. 10:14)
It is by His Blood that we are perfected. It is by His Sacrifice that we are sanctified. It is by His Spirit that we are “sealed unto the day of redemption.” As saved, born-again Christians, we are all made anew by the blessed Work that Jesus Christ did on the Cross to pay for our sins, once and for all.
