I Need to Pray More
My pastor just preached a sermon this past Sunday on the importance of prayer in a Christian’s life. He preached from Luke 11 about the prayer of importunity but he also mentioned that we must pray the right kind of prayer, the prayer that God accepts. Coincidentally, my devotion this morning was about prayer. It’s almost like God is talking directly to me: you need to pray more. God has always honored men of prayer. The Bible describes Jabez as “more honourable”. I believe that the reason why he was more honorable was because of his prayer life. God admires men and women of God who pray.
I remember the first few months I got saved; it seems like I prayed more then than I do now. I certainly have grown in the Lord, but I know the reason why I am lacking boldness and courage is because of my lack of prayer. I need to get busy and pray more. I need to pray fervently for God’s hand to move in the lives of others. I need to stop doubting that God answers prayer and start asking in faith.
May I say that praying more does not necessarily mean praying longer. God wants fervent prayer, not long prayer. The Bible never says that the long prayer of a righteous man availeth much. It says that the “effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth (continually profits) much.”
May we all become more fervent and effectual in our prayer life; may we have a desire to seek God’s face daily. Praise God that we have a God who answers prayer!
