Every Man is Tempted
James 1:14 But every man is tempted…
As stated in yesterday’s devotion, temptation is common to man. Temptation has existed since the serpent’s deception of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Although temptation is something that happens to every man, as Christians, we do not have to give into temptation.
The Bible says that “sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” (Rom. 6:14) For the lost man, who is still in bondage to sin, he has no choice but to give into temptation, “…for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.” 2 Peter 2;19 (b)
A lost man is overcome by sin because he is in bondage to sin. As Christians, however, we have the Holy Spirit of God abiding in our hearts which convicts us and reproves us of all iniquity. “And when he (the Holy Spirit) is come, he will reprove the world of sin,..” John 16:8 (a)
Christian, are you heeding the Holy Spirit’s reproof and correction when you choose to give into temptation. Are you trusting Him every hour to keep you from temptation? Lost man, are you tired of being in bondage to sin? Are you tired of always giving into temptation? Come unto Jesus, dear friend, and be saved, knowing that He has done all to set you free. “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
