How Art Thou Fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Isaiah 14:12 (KJV)
Today, we begin our study about Satan. We will begin with one of the most famous passages of Scripture concerning Satan–Isaiah 14. Throughout the week, we will dissect this verse and divide its meaning by comparing Scripture with Scripture.
“How art thou fallen from heaven…” God cast Satan down to earth after he sinned against Almighty God. As we have seen in the last few devotions, the devil tempted Adam and Eve, in another attempt to thwart God’s plan. Thus, after Adam and Eve’s sin, God cursed Satan for tempting mankind, and made a promise that he would send a Saviour to redeem sinful man from his sinful state.
This verse is also a prophecy. The Book of Revelation says in Chapter 12 and verse 10 that the “Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” (Rev. 12:10)
May we remember that the devil is a defeated foe, and cannot win the victory over us. May we be valiant and firm against his attacks daily, knowing that we have the power to “stand against the wiles of the devil.”
