By which also Ye are Saved…
(1 Corinthians 15:1) Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
(1 Corinthians 15:2) By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
(1 Corinthians 15:3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
(1 Corinthians 15:4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV)
I think we would all agree that the Gospel message is a very simple one. Most people understand the concept that Jesus’ death on the Cross paid the penalty for our sin, and that His bodily resurrection from the dead symbolized His power and conquest over death and Hell. I actually think that even some agnostics/atheists can all understand this concept. I believe that some people from other religions including Hinduism, Buddhism, and others have no problem understanding this very basic concept of death, burial, and resurrection. However, the problem is that a lot of this knowledge about our Lord Jesus Christ has never really translated into true belief and trust in Jesus; thus, the biggest problem we have now is unbelief.
It is certianly not surprising to me that this has happened, because it was prophesied in the Old Testament.
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
Daniel 12:4 (KJV)
The Bible says that many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. It is no doubt that people have become more knowledgeable about Jesus Christ and the salvation that He provides, but many people in these last days are suffering from a very deadly combination of spiritual blindness and unbelief. Therefore, it is not out of the question to ascertain that the large majority of professing “Christians” in this nation are lukewarm Christians or perhaps not even Christians at all. This increased “knowledge” of Jesus Christ has led to more people “professing that they know God” and people that have a “form of godliness”, but it has certainly not led to salvation. The Bible tells us to turn away from such people in the end times.
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2 Timothy 3:5 (KJV)
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Titus 1:16 (KJV)
Based upon these verses, we can easily see from the Bible that the people who have this form of godliness and profess to know God, but know him not, will eventually have a home in Hell if they do not get saved.
An unsaved person might ask: So, if the increased knowledge of the Scriptures has not led to any true, genuine salvation, what good is the Gospel?
A saved person should answer: The problem is not with the Gospel wherein we stand. “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth…” (Rom. 1:16) I believe that the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is the same Gospel “by which also ye are saved” (1 Cor. 15:2) and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that the true, genuine preaching of the right Gospel of our Lord and Saviour can result in the salvation of several lost people in this country and around the world.
As Christians, we must be on the same page. We are living in a world where God has temporarily allowed wickedness to reign and Satan to unleash his forces of power on this earth until one day Satan himself will be cast down to the earth during the Great Tribulation (Rev. 12:10). If Satan can get the Christian to wallow in unbelief, even for a moment, then these people who the Bible calls “abominable and disobedient” will have no chance of getting saved, if we back down about our own convictions. As a born again believer, I believe that the Gospel is not just some mere “story”. I believe that the Gospel is the same Gospel “by which also ye are saved.” I believe that the same Gospel that was preach unto me is the same Gospel that should be preached to every one else. The Gospel has not changed, will not change, and will never pass away, for “heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Luk. 21:33) The Gospel has always been used to get people saved and it will continue to as long as it is preached “straight up” or exactly from the Bible, not perverted by the carnal minds of unsaved men, but from the pure and sanctified Word of God, which shall never pass away.
