It is not surprising that many people in this age do not fear God. The foul things that people say, the foul things that people do, bear witness to the fact that this age is devoid of the fear of the Lord. Many lost people have become woefully ignorant of what it means to fear the Lord.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. –Proverbs 1:7 (KJV)
The Bible says that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. In order to genuinely get to know God, we must fear Him. We must be in awe of His power; we must revere and respect His authority. When we fear God, we will find the knowledge of God.
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. –Proverbs 2:5-6 (KJV)
The LORD is the only one who can give us wisdom. He is the only one who can give us understanding.
As Christians, we must also realize that lost people are devoid of the fear of God, and therefore are ignorant of the knowledge of God.
“The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.” –Psalms 36:1 (KJV)
The wicked has no fear of God, because He does not regard the things of God in his heart. Because the wicked’s desire is to do evil, and not good the things that lost people often bear witness that they do not fear God.
There is no fear of God before their eyes.–Romans 3:18 (KJV)
Before we were saved, we also had no fear of God. We were wretched, filthy sinners who needed a Saviour that would give us of His Spirit, which would help us to fear God. Praise God for the blood of Jesus Christ!
May we never, even as born-again Christians, forget to fear God in everything we say and do. May we “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12), and never fail to obey and honor God with the tithe, our offering, our missions-giving, our prayer, our Bible-reading–you name it! May we fear God in everything we do. God bless you all.
