Thou Shalt Worship the Lord thy God
“Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
Matthew 4:10 (KJV)
In yet another familiar passage of Scripture, we see that Lord Jesus Christ is being tempted by the devil in the wilderness. In the preceding verses, the devil gives him two temptations and uses the questioning language: “If thou be the Son of God…” In Matthew 4:9, the Devil tempts Jesus and tries to get him to bow down and worship him in exchange for all the kingdoms of the world. In Matthew 4:10, Jesus quotes Scripture once again, and reminds the Devil that the Almighty God of Heaven is the only one who should be worshiped. In this verse, Jesus also coins the famous phrase, “Get thee hence, Satan…” a phrase that many Christians use to combat the wiles of the devil.
During Christmas, many more people think about Santa Claus than they do the Lord Jesus Christ. It breaks my heart to see so many people led astray by this elaborate lie of the devil, and forgetting the true reason that Christmas even exists. Christmas exists because the Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour was born, not because Santa came on the roof at midnight. May we not forget, as Christians, that the only Person we should worship is the Lord God Jehovah and the only person we should serve is the Lord Jesus Christ, the Almighty God, during this Christmas season. May we shine as lights to lost people who have forgotten the real meaning of Christmas, and may we remind the Christian who is wallowing in worldliness that it is Jesus Christ that we ought to serve and not the wicked things of this world. May we be encouraged to serve and honor our Lord Jesus Christ in the things we say, do, and give this Christmas season, that the world may see “your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.” Be blessed my friends. –SB
