Today’s passage of Scripture was written during a time when Israel was spiritually rebellious and stubborn. Isaiah proclaimed the Word of God to those who would listen and in this particular passage, he was reassuring the Israelites that there is still strength in the LORD GOD JEHOVAH.
(Isa 26:2) Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.
(Isa 26:3) Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
(Isa 26:4) Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
(Isa 26:5) For he bringeth down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he layeth it low; he layeth it low, even to the ground; he bringeth it even to the dust.
Isaiah 26:2-5 (KJV)
In verse 2, Isaiah is proclaiming that God will open “doors” for Israel that other nations will not be able to open because Israel is a righteous nation and keeps the Truth of the Lord God. In verse 3, Isaiah reminds the people that the Lord will keep the Israelites in perfect peace if they keep their minds focused on the Lord God. If you have read in the Old Testament, you might know that Israel had a history of apostasy from the things of God and a growing acceptance for idolatry when times got hard. That is why Isaiah says in verse 4, “Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:” He makes sure that he reassures Israel that they don’t need to trust in other gods; the only One who can save them is the LORD GOD. Do you find yourself slipping farther and farther away from God today? Don’t turn away from Him, my friend, when it seems like things are getting tougher and tougher. Remember that there is everlasting strength in the LORD JEHOVAH. Keep your mind on the Lord Jesus Christ, today, and trust in the Lord, and I am certain that He will bring you through. Be blessed my friends.
