It is High Time
Many Christians are not aware, I think, of the significance of the end times. Many Christians are spiritually “asleep”; many churches have lost their fire as a result of a decreased burden for lost souls. Many churches have become dead as the church regards door-to-door soul-winning as “old-fashioned” and “outdated.” In Romans 13, Paul is exhorting the Christians at Rome to wake up. Paul knows that the Church at Rome knows the time that they are living in. In fact, he states it in verse number 11.
Rom 13:11a, “And that, knowing the time, that now [it is] high time to awake out of sleep…
Paul says that because the Church at Rome knows the time, it is high time for them to awake out of sleep. Basically, Paul is saying that the time has long passed for an awakening, for revival. Paul is saying that revival needs to happen NOW!
Our churches need revival today. We need not only to know (or to be aware of) the times that we are living in, we need to be prepared for them, we need to be valiant in them and we need to be sober and vigilant in them. God saved us at the exact time He wanted us to be saved for a reason. God wanted us to be saved in the end times so that we could be able to preach the Gospel to a world that is extremely devoid for the Truth. We have a privilege that most of the early apostles did not have: we have the completed, perfect, inspired Word of God that we can preach from and live by. We have the privilege of the indwelling Holy Spirit of God, by which we are enable through Him to bring the Word forth, and to bring it forth with boldness. Yet, many Christians are still asleep, waiting for someone else to do the job. If Jesus were to come back two minutes from now, there wouldn’t be anyone else to do the job, because we’d all be taken out of here!!
We need to have the attitude, the desire, to know that it is high time. We need not prolong soul-winning and visitation. We need not become nonchalant about lost souls. We need to blow the trumpet and let the lost know that it is high time!!
In the next half of Romans 13:11, Paul makes a rather interesting statement:
Rom 13:11b,” …for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed.“
In this verse, we see a transition from an imperative exhortation, to a declarative fact. If we compare Scripture-with-Scripture, we see that Paul is talking about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Luke 21:28, “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
in this verse, Jesus tells us that when we see that it is high time, when these things begin to come to pass (wars, famines, pestilences, etc.), that our redemption draweth nigh. Paul uses the word salvation in Romans 13:11, but he implies the same concept. Our redemption is drawing nigh. Our salvation is near, very near, nearer than when we believed. Christian, do you want Jesus to find you sleeping when He comes back for your soul? To the lost person, do you want Jesus to find you outside of the will of God and on your way to Hell? I pray for you, that you will make the decision TODAY to trust Christ to save your soul. Christian, I pray for you, that you would wake up, and know that it is high time. May we be encouraged, knowing that our salvation is nearer than when we believed, and that our redemption draweth nigh.
