Love the Lord your God
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord : And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Deuteronomy 6:4-5
All of us, when asked if we love the Lord, would proclaim without a doubt that we love the Lord. However, the real question is do we show that love on a daily basis in our own lives.
Our text this morning served as a reminder that we need to love the Lord with all of our heart, which is our emotions, will, and intellect. In other words, we should be entirely sold out for him. We should also love the Lord with all of our soul. Because we are saved, we should have a continual longing and desire to be close to God. As the psalmist said in Psalms 63:1, O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is. Our souls should long for God and his word.
Finally, we must love the Lord with all of our might. We must show that we love him by our fervency and seriousness in our service to Him. Christian service ought never be boring or dull, it should be filled with energy and enthusiasm.
May we have the resolve this morning to love the Lord with all our hearts.
