The Devil’s Music
(10) Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:
In this passage of Scripture, we see that King Nebuchadnezzar has made a decree, a commandment, that every one that hears the sound of several different instruments should fall down and worship the idol that he created.
In this verse, we see that there is a very lucid connection between music and idolatry: “…that every man that shall hear…all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image.” It was at the sound of instruments, at the sound of “all kinds of music”, at which all the people were to fall down and worship the idol.
Many saved, born-again Christians, particularly those in the teenage community, still see nothing wrong with listening to all kinds of music. Most see music as i-moral, something that doesn’t affect them. However, music affects us in a very powerful way. Sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worse.
Many teenagers now listen to rap or hip-hop music, and some listen to the damnable “Christian” rap or “Christian” hip-hop. I want to assure you that all of that foolishness is an elaborate lie of the devil. The Bible says that we are to speak to ourselves in “PSALMS and HYMNS and SPIRITUAL SONGS, singing, and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” The goal of the devil’s music has always been to fall down and worship him. There is such a thing as wicked music. Wicked music does not exalt the Saviour. Godly music exalts the Saviour.
Are you listening to the right kind of music, teenager? Are you listening to the devil’s music, which leads to idolatry, or are you listening to godly music, which exalteth the Saviour? Will you make a commitment this morning to forsake the devil’s music and start worshipping God in godly worship music and godly songs? May God bless you as you desire to get right with Him.
